Bra Size - Fitting Guide

bra fitting pictureIt is amazing just how many women are wearing the wrong size bra without realising it.  We will often notice the back feeling a little tight or maybe look like we’ve got double boobs where our breast overspill the cup and immediately think ‘I need a bigger back size’.  What we often don’t realise is that the back size is only one half of a bra fitting...  Being fitted with the correct cup size often means women may go down in their back size.

For some women wearing the wrong size bra can just mean their overall shape and look is not as good as it could be.  However, for others, particularly if you’re a DD+ cup size, it can cause pain and discomfort to your back and neck, can cause you to stoop in your posture and can lead to skin irritation and tenderness.

We would recommend all women be professionally fitted at least once every six months but no longer than twelve months between fits.

At Je Suis we do not use a tape measure as we believe they do not give an accurate measurement. There are many variations of style of bra, and manufacturers/brands so you could find your sizes slightly differs between these.  We treat each person as an individual who has their own style and shape and our professionally trained staff will listen to your needs, assess your correct size and give advice if needed.

Below are some tips for you to consider when trying on a bra

  • Fasten the bra on the loosest hook
  • Ensure the strap around your body is firm but comfortable
  • Centre front sits flat against your body
  • Breast tissue is completely enclosed in the cups

While we stress that is it best to be professionally fitted, we realise it is not always possible, so here are a few guidelines that you may find helpful when buying or trying on a bra.

You find that a bra is loose around the edge.
Try a smaller cup size.

You find that your breast are spilling out of the front of the bra and your silhouette is bumpy.
Try a bra with a smaller back and a larger cup size.

You find that your bra band is riding up your back.
Try a smaller back size

You find your straps are leaving indent marks.
Try a smaller back size so that the band of the bra is supporting you.

You find that the underwire is digging under your armpit.
Try a bra with a bigger cup size.

You find that your breasts are falling out the bottom of the under wire.
Try a bra which is smaller in the back and larger in the cup.
